'Vardo'
The series is called 'Vardo' and is a personal response as a fashion illustrator to isolation and the lockdown. 'Vardo' means 'gypsy caravan' in Romani - and refers to the specific green of the caravan. The series plays with and celebrates how fashion can transport us to another time, place, space - be it the glint of a piece of costume jewellery, the texture of a silk shirt or the luxury of a ruffled dress. The colour palette is introspective - as if seen behind curtains, behind closed doors - each figure sitting or contemplative. A love letter to the power of fashion even when no one can see.
Each piece is an experimental A4 study in ink and clay paint on aquarelle and has been made since the lockdown.
