NORDIC NOIR + FAIRY TALE TROPES
Cover illustration for the Times Literary Supplement combining the themes of two articles: ‘Crying Wolf’ by Claire Lowdon and ‘Grim up North’ by Heather O’Donoghue. The articles respectively explore the overuse of fairytale cliches epitomised by the wolf and the global success of nordic noir. I used the tired/sleeping wolf to create the awe-inspiring shadow lands of a nordic landscape. Visual layers of intertextuality – let sleeping dogs lie.
Created in acrylic and watercolour paint.
