A Hackney Autobiography is a brand new interactive app and oral history archive. I was commissioned by On the Record to create the visual identity for ‘A Hackney Autobiography’ through a series of illustrations capturing moments in the history of Hackney. Working with an abundance of amazing research material from independent publishing house Centerprise to illustrate key stories from the late 20th century in Hackney. The brief was to create sensitive yet simple monochrome illustrations with a splash of colour. The illustrations needed to work together and individually.
The app launched in May 2017. It has been described as ‘magical’ and a ‘poetic sat-nav’ by the press including this article by Hackney Citizen. The website is live, and the native mobile app ‘A Hackney Autobiography’ is available on the App Store and Google Play store | ahackneyautobiography.org.uk
